Who is G-d? (Part 2) Let's continue looking into the names of G-d.  This is an important study because names are so important.  Names help us identify ourselves and each other, assign characteristics to an individual, and set us each apart as unique.  For this second part of the names of G-d, let us go back to the 23rd Psalm.  In that one chapter, we are given examples of seven of G-d's names, the redemptive names of the Messiah. "The Lord is my shepherd" In this first verse, we see Jehovah Rohi , G-d our Shepherd.  Yeshua Jesus makes many references to His sheep and His lambs.  Mark 6:34 tells us that "[Jesus] came out and saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them because they were like sheep not having a shepherd.  So he began to teach them many things."  John 10:3 says "He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out."  John 10:27 says “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” ...

Who is G-d? Okay, the title is a bit "big" and I am not even going to get close to a definitive expose on that subject, but it is the right title for this article.  In this issue, I want to explore a few of the many names of G-d.  There are charts and books and lists all over the place with names that we have given our Creator, or that He Himself has told us.  These "names"  are descriptive names that each show us one facet of the nature of G-d. G-d is jealous of His Name and has given us some pretty clear indications that it is important to Him what we call Him.  Many times throughout scripture we read that G-d does certain things so that others would "know His Name", "fear His Name", or that His Name would be "declared". (Exodus 9:16, Jeremiah 26:21, Malachi 4:2) There are more than 50 references throughout scripture where G-d refers to a place for His "name to dwell" or His Name being "in a place...

THE VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH Many sermons have been taught on the 23rd Psalm.  Most of these sermons focus on the Lord as our provider, protector, comforter, etc.  The Psalm even mentions being comforted and protected while traversing one of the scariest places we can imagine...the Valley of the Shadow of Death.  Doesn't that sound awful?  The Psalmist rests assured that he (we) are covered by the hand of G-d — bearing rod and staff, of course, even in this awful place. But where is this terrible valley and why would we ever venture there? Let's look at the context surrounding the verse. First of all, we should back up to the previous chapter, Psalm 22.  This chapter is thick with prophetic verses about the Messiah's crucifixion.  To understand just how significant this passage is, understand that King David, author of this Psalm, died just over 900 years before the birth of Jesus.
